Robbie Williams’ European tour will start in Manchester on June 19, 2013 to cement his legacy in pop history. He is still one of the most popular British pop singers. His boyish looks, turbulent lifestyle, popular music hits and highly entertaining multimedia-rich stage appearances made him very popular within the music industry and among his loyal fan base.
Born on Feb, 13 1974 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, Robert Peter Williams always wanted to be famous, ever since he won his first talent contest at the age of 3 for impersonating John Travolta. Robbie joined ‘Take That’ in 1990 after his mother persuaded him to apply for an audition held by the band’s future manager Nigel Martin-Smith. The boy band quickly topped the charts and gained worldwide popularity by experimenting with the boy band/Brit pop concept. During Robbie’s initial years in ‘Take that’, the group released 3 studio albums, 17 singles, 19 music videos and 6 video albums.
During his time in the band, Robbie performed lead vocals on the first hits like ‘Everything Changes’, ‘Could It Be Magic’ and ‘I Found Heaven’. The band won multiple Brit Awards and had 54 number 1 hits and 35 number 1 albums worldwide. Their ballads were so popular that they’ve literally dominated UK music charts during the 90s. Robbie’s career in ‘Take That’ ended in 1995, after his personal and legal disputes with Jason Orange, Gary Barlow and the group’s manager – Nigel Martin-Smith.
The start of his solo career is marked by his version of George Michael’s ‘Freedom’ and ‘Old Before I Die’, a single from his first solo album. Both of these singles topped the British charts and took the second place. His first big commercial solo breakthrough came with a single ‘Angles’, taken from his first album ‘Life Thru a Lens’. The song became both British and international bestseller, while the album sold in excess of 3 million copies in Europe alone.
In total, Robbie Williams released 5 compilation albums, 9 studio albums, 41 singles and one live album. His third and fourth solo albums, ‘Sing When You’re Winning’ and ‘Swing When You’re Winning’ came in 2000 and 2001. Williams released a total of 6 singles from the first album. ‘Rock DJ’, ‘Kids’, ‘Supreme’ and ‘The Road to Mandalay’ were among the most successful ones. ‘Swing When You’re Winning’ also brought his duet with Nicole Kidman, which resulted in their version of ‘Something Stupid’, which became instant “top 10″ hit across Europe.
Robbie’s last solo studio album, ‘Take The Crown’ was released in November 2012. By his own words, the singer will continue working on his successful solo career and collaborating with ‘Take That’ when the circumstances allow.
Williams will be joined by X Factor star Olly Murs. Will you be buying a ticket?
